Garbage Disposal Repair in Memphis, TN

Flowmasters repairs garbage disposals that jam, hum, leak or won't turn on, and replaces them when the unit is worn out. We also clear the kitchen drain behind it, because a clogged line is often why the disposal seems broken.

Common problems

Sound familiar?

It hums but won't spin

A humming disposal is usually jammed by something hard, like a bone, pit or utensil. Running it jammed can burn out the motor.

It won't turn on at all

A dead disposal may just need its reset button pressed, or it may have a bad switch, wiring problem or failed motor.

Leaks under the sink

Water from the bottom of the unit means the internal seals have failed. Leaks at the top or side are often loose mounts or drain connections.

Questions

What people ask first

Why is my garbage disposal humming but not working?
The grinding plate is jammed, usually by a hard object or packed food. Turn off the power before reaching in anything. If freeing it with the hex key on the bottom doesn't work, call us before the motor overheats.
Is it worth repairing a garbage disposal?
Jams, tripped resets and leaking connections are worth fixing. If the unit leaks from its body or the motor has burned out, replacement is the better value, since those internal parts aren't practical to repair.
What shouldn't go down a garbage disposal?
Grease, oil, coffee grounds, eggshells, rice, pasta, potato peels and fibrous scraps like celery and onion skins. Grease and starches build up in the drain line and cause clogs further down.
Why does my sink back up when I run the disposal?
The drain line past the disposal is partly clogged, often with grease. The disposal pushes water in faster than the line can carry it away. Clearing the kitchen branch line fixes it.
